Direction and opportunities in the design and planning of a school-based English Language curriculum in Hong Kong primary schools for 2005 and beyond

The forthcoming English Language Curriculum Guide (Primary 1 ¡V 6) (CDC, 2004) gives recommendations to schools and teachers on the implementation of the curriculum reform proposed by the Curriculum Development Council (CDC). It will be a useful reference for teachers in the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of a school-based English Language curriculum. This article aims at highlighting the major issues in the recent development of English Language education and at helping teachers understand how they can provide a high quality school-based English Language curriculum and appreciate the important role that they play in ensuring a high standard of English Language learning, teaching and assessment.
