As society changes along with the rapid growth of new technology, teachers in this modern age need to perceive themselves as facilitators who emphasize self-exploration in students and provide guidance during their learning. Teachers nowadays have to be flexible by adopting innovative methods of teaching to ensure knowledge is effectively transferred and most importantly, students’ creative thinking is fostered.
The Minor in Creative Teaching and Learning (CTL) offered by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is designed to best equip teachers to identify and utilize teaching innovations in their classrooms to aid all learners. It is a professional and practical programme which stresses 21st century knowledge and skills that will empower both teachers and students of today to create the world of tomorrow.
The Minor is open to all EDUHK students.

Upon successful completion the CTL Minor, students will be able to:
PILO1 | Demonstrate an understanding of the basic components, concepts and current trends of creative teaching and learning; |
PILO2 | Comprehend contemporary theories of teaching innovation; |
PILO3 | Investigate tools, strategies and examples of creative teaching and learning from both local and overseas sources; |
PILO4 | Analyze creative teaching adopted to a local context and develop the necessary skills in applying such creations in their own instructional settings; |
PILO5 | Experiment with creative practices to build up effective teaching competence in the classroom context. |
15 credits are required to earn the CTL Minor. Students must complete all 6 credits (2 courses) from the Cores; in addition to choose 9 credits (3 courses) from the Electives.
The design of the “2 cores + 3 electives” is based on the “intrinsic to extrinsic” approach – students start to reflect their innate creative potential, then be more flexible in adopting new ways of thinking and be more original in integrating their own creative experiences into teaching.
The 2 cores lay a solid groundwork for students to learn the contemporary theories and develop the abilities inherent in creativity while the 3 electives are designed to equip students with a broad coverage of the latest topics relating to creative practices in teaching and learning.
* The non-formal experiences are also incorporated into the Minor to broaden students’ horizons in the area.
