With the aim to develop students into active autonomous learners, Santa Rosa de Lima Chinese Section of Macau has commissioned the Centre for Excellence in Learning and Teaching (CELT) to provide one-year consultancy support to the teachers of English Language and General Studies in 2022-2023.
Two preliminary meetings for understanding the school context and expectations of the kind of support required were held on 6 July and 8 August 2022 before finalizing the details of the support programme. Two ‘Needs analysis’ meetings took place on 22 August 2022 for the subject consultants (Miss Jannie Tsang and Miss Leung Kit Yan) to learn about the needs of both the students and teachers so that the professional workshops could be tailor-made to meet their needs.
Due to the travel restrictions caused by the pandemic, the two subject-based professional development workshops in parallel sessions were conducted online on 3 September 2022 for the teachers of English Language and General Studies. Apart from learning the theories of Self-Regulated Learning and Cooperative Learning, the teachers were engaged in a series of interactive activities so as to personally experience active learning during the 3-hour workshops. The upcoming professional events (like co-planning meetings, lesson observations and post-lesson conferences) will also be conducted online. It is hoped that face-to-face on-site school support can be conducted when the pandemic is over.
