Doctor/Master of Philosophy (PhD/MPhil)
As a research student at the University, you will follow a programme of study under the guidance of a principal supervisor and a supervision committee. At the start of your programme you will draw up a plan for your research in consultation with your supervisor for completion of your thesis within the period of registration for the degree. Your work plan and training programme will be reviewed annually in the light of your research needs and progress.

Doctor of Education (EdD)
The creative arts play a critical role in human and community development as well as the cultural and creative industries. The rapid and ongoing transformation of the cultural landscape and economic environments in a globalised world presents enormous challenges to educational and artistic leadership in areas such as policy making, innovative programme/curriculum development and interdisciplinary learning. This area is designed to provide stimulating opportunities for students to be engaged as lifelong learners with exciting research projects and significant global trends in creative arts education – music / visual arts.

Master of Arts in Music Education MA (ME) (One-year Full-time/Two-year Part-time)
This programme provides a solid subject-based grounding for practitioners in the music profession while at the same time satisfies their need in further developing understanding in thinking, research and practice in music education relevant to their professional roles. In particular, the programme aims to deepen and strengthen students' professional aptitude in their chosen music domain such as composition, performance, or research; cultivate synergy between subject and pedagogical strengths in music; and help students develop and apply skills in creative and critical thinking, research and arts practice to the professional fields of music and music education.

Master of Arts in Visual Arts Education and Creative Practice MA(VAECP) (1-year Full-time)
The Visual Arts educational environment is changing at a rapid pace both within formal educational institutions and outside them, and for all educational levels. Driven by many different factors, this is creating new challenges and new opportunities for existing art teachers, lecturers, educators, and creative practitioners. The Master of Arts in Visual Arts Education and Creative Practice (MA(VAECP)) programme is a unique and visionary initiative that draws upon a combination of academic and professional expertise within the Department of Cultural and Creative Arts (CCA) of The Education University of Hong Kong, and whose design reflects the University's combination of specialist knowledge and understanding of Hong Kong's educational environment and contemporary international approaches to education in the creative arts. Encouraging collaboration and interdisciplinary approaches to learning and research, this cutting-edge programme which will prepare students for future careers in visual arts, visual arts education and associated fields.

Certificate in Professional Development Programme in Visual Arts Knowledge and Art Appreciation & Criticism in Context PDP(VAK) (Full-time Block Release)
The programme aims to strengthen participants’ understanding of the three learning domains (visual arts knowledge, visual arts appreciation and criticism in context, and visual arts making) of the Visual Arts curriculum, as well as the relevant teaching strategies. In the programme, participants will learn about knowledge, skills and teaching strategies in relation to the three learning domains through group discussions and hands-on activities for enhancing the learning and teaching effectiveness of implementing the primary school Visual Arts curriculum.

Certificate in PDP in Music e-Learning, Cantonese Opera and Popular Music PDP(MCP) (Full-time Block Release)
The programme aims to develop participants’ pedagogical knowledge and competence in teaching primary school Music through enhancing practical skills and designing school-based Music curriculum.
The programme aims to enhance participants’ knowledge in music teaching, music creating and school-based curriculum design so as to strengthen their competence in teaching primary or secondary school Music.
On successful completion of the programme, participants will be able to:
- transfer knowledge and use e-learning strategies effectively in the teaching of Cantonese opera and popular music through participation and research;
- formulate appropriate learning assessment strategies to optimise music teaching; and
- enhance musicianship and practical skills such as rehearsal skills, arranging skills and composing techniques.

This programme prepares university graduates to become competent and confident teachers in primary schools in Hong Kong. It provides opportunities for participants to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes required of fully qualified primary school teachers, together with an understanding of the responsibilities and obligations of belonging to the teaching profession. In addition, the programme seeks to foster a commitment of the participants to their students and to lifelong professional development.
This programme prepares university graduates to become competent and confident teachers in primary schools in Hong Kong.
