PREFACE
In this December or Second Issue of Volume 8, there are 11 articles contributed by 18 authors in 13 different universities or education-related organisations. Because of an unforeseen problem, we have to break our convention with no Foreword article published in this issue. Anyway, out of the 11 contributed articles published in the present issue, we have 2 in the Academic Articles section and 9 in the General Articles section. Those two academic articles provide some unique insights on the study of the students' achievements, misconceptions and attitudes towards biology (by Yılmaz KARA and Selami YESILYURT) and teacher's professional development (by Behiye AKCAY). For those 9 general articles, they cover a very comprehensive and diversifited range of topics on science education, including usage of laboratory method in primary school education (by Osman CARDAK, Kerim ONDER and Musa DIKMENLI), representations in problem solving (by Joan Josep SOLAZ-PORTOLÉS & Vicent Sanjosé LOPEZ), pupils' understanding of decomposition (by Gülcan ÇETİN), influence of constructivism on nature of Science (by Mehmet KARAKAS), survey of basic scientific literacy (by Xiao Qin LAI) and concept mapping in primary science (by Yuan LING & Hong Kwen BOO), as well as new modes of physics education such as cooperative learning (by Fui Fong HO and Hong Kwen BOO), teaching and management of physics demonstration (by Aiyu CUI and Xishun XIE) and physics teachers' professionalism (by Haibin SUN and Tingting LIU). For all articles published in the aforementioned 2 sections, their corresponding pdf files are freely available for access in our Download section. Finally, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the 30 external referees in 25 different universities or organisations and all members of our Editorial Board who have carefully and critically reviewed those manuscripts considered for publication in this issue. Thanks are also due to all persons who have contributed articles in this issue and to all research assistants and colleagues in the HKIEd who offered their kind assistance in developing and promoting this online periodical. Besides, we must express our special thanks to the University Grants Committee of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the HKIEd for their approval of providing the "matching grant" of donation to support this scholarly activity. |
