Asia-Pacific Forum on Science Learning and Teaching, Volume 10, Issue 2

PREFACE

During the last 6 months, we had received or processed about 35 submitted manuscripts of which 10 were immediately rejected after the preliminary review by our Editorial Board as their contents were clearly lying outside the main scope or beyond the accepted level of standards of our journal or subsequently withdrawn by the authors themselves during the peer-reviewing process. In order to maintain the quality of our publication, there was no paper accepted without at least a moderate or substantial revision despite of the increased number of submissions. After ensuring due revision to properly address the referees' comments, 16 research or professional papers were accepted for publication in this December or Second Issue of Volume 10 and they were placed under 3 main sections of this journal, namely Academic Articles Section, General Articles Section and Exemplary Teaching Methods Section to reflect the nature of those contributed papers. They were contributed by 24 authors from a number of universities or education-related organisations, mostly in some developing countries or regions.

In the Academic Articles Section, there are two papers on problem-solving in physics as written by Naki ERDEMIR and Funda ORNEK, respectively plus another one on properties and phenomena of air by Mizrap BULUNUZ and Olga S. JARRETT. In the General Articles Section, the ten papers cover a wide range of science topics/concepts/ideas such as acid-base concepts (by Gökhan DEMİRCİOĞLU), dangerous animals (by Osman CARDAK), laboratory work (by Musa DIKMENLI), surface tension of water (by Cheng-Chih CHEN & Hong-Hua CHEN), environmental education (by Naim UZUN) and curriculum issues and instructional design such as instruction technology (by Nwachukwu Prince OLOLUBE, Paul EKE, Michael Chukwuwieke UZORKA,Nkereuwem Stephen EKPENYONG & Ngboawaji Daniel NTE), teachers' disposition (by Hakan TURKMEN), China's curriculum reform (by Baoshan YANG), nature of science (by Mustafa Serdar KÖKSAL) and classroom management (by Kürşad YILMAZ) in science education. In the Exemplary Teaching Methods Section, the 3 papers are related to the preschool science in Turkey (by Hatice Zeynep INAN), use of video technology in a Hong Kong inter-school project (by Leo Sun-wai FUNG & Yu-nang CHAN) and the adoption of concept cartoons in China (by Yan-yan XIONG & Xian-qiu WU).

For all articles published in the aforementioned 3 sections, their corresponding pdf files are freely available for access in our Download section.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere thanks to the 43 external referees from 14 different countries or regions and all members of our Editorial Board who have carefully and critically reviewed those manuscripts which are being considered for publication in this issue. Thanks are also due to all persons who have contributed articles in this issue and to all research assistants, student helpers and colleagues in the HKIEd who offered their kind assistance in developing and promoting this online periodical.
