Agency Project
Links is a leader learning programme run over about 12 months. It is built around
experiential learning where leaders are challenged to learn by ‘doing’. A key
element of Links is school-based inquiry based learning. This takes the form
of an Agency Project, normally completed in Alliances.
The purpose of the project
is two-fold. First, it aims to improve some aspect of your school’s leadership
practice, policy or procedure. Second, it is about
improving your own leadership capability and potential. Hence, the process
and the outcome of the project are equally important.
In simple terms it is about learning to be a better school leader by engaging
in an act of leadership — which in this case — is a challenge to improve some
aspect of your school’s performance.
An inquiry into leadership is about wanting to explore, learn and construct
new ideas and understandings about leadership. Inquiry implies active
involvement that leads to better understanding. This implies using your skills
in concert with others to seek new answers to questions important to your
school.
Successful leaders are those that regularly and continuously engage in inquiry
as a process of leadership. Through the inquiry process they construct much
of their own and others understanding of ‘what works’ in schools.
