APCLC Visiting Scholars Sponsorship Scheme (Inbound)
The APCLC Visiting Scholars Sponsorship Scheme (Inbound) (hereafter referred to as 'the Scheme') aims to offer sponsorship to emerging and established scholars from distinguished universities abroad to visit EdUHK and APCLC for a period from two weeks to up to three months. The initiative aims to foster international collaborations, advance the Centre's research agenda, and enhance its global visibility.
Objectives- Facilitate Joint Projects: Enable or facilitate the development of joint international research projects by leveraging complementary expertise. The visiting scholar will be expected to collaborate with APCLC staff and discuss ideas for future joint projects and co-authored publications.
- Cultivate Academic Networks: Foster a strong network of international academic collaborations, paving the way for future partnerships and sustained research efforts. The visiting scholar will be expected to give at least one research sharing talk during their visit and interact regularly with research fellows at APCLC.
- Enhance International Profile: Elevate APCLC's global standing and reputation by hosting relevant scholars from prestigious institutions.
The Scheme is available to apply throughout the academic year. The visiting period is up to a maximum duration of three months. Senior visiting scholars (associate or full professors) will receive a maximum of HK$75,000 in sponsorship, while postdoctoral researchers will typically receive a reimbursement of up to HK$60,000. The sponsorship aims to reimburse visitors for part of their living expenses in Hong Kong and travel expenses between their home country and Hong Kong. The amount of sponsorship is subject to the duration of the visit.
- Travel expenses: A maximum of HK$15,000 for reimbursement of round-trip airfare1 to Hong Kong, airport transportation, or other travel expenses, such as visa application fees.

Living expenses:
- Senior Visiting Scholars: Up to HK$20,000 per month or HK$5,000 per week2
- Postdoctoral Researchers: Up to HK$15,000 per month or HK$3,750 per week
1 Should follow EdUHK guidelines for buying an airline ticket.
2 A week refers to 5 working days and a month refers to 4 weeks.
EligibilityEmerging and established scholars from recognised universities outside Hong Kong are eligible to apply. The applicant should have a doctoral degree in a relevant field and a research background deemed satisfactory by the Centre.
Application ProceduresThe applicant must submit the documents specified below to the APCLC (email: apclcl@eduhk.hk) in Word/PDF format for review by the APCLC committee. If the application is successful, the Centre will issue an invitation letter to the applicant.
Selection Criteria- Research collaboration & Alignment of research interests with APCLC: A brief description of the proposed research collaboration should be given. Applicants should have familiarised themselves with the Centre's background and research priorities in advance and showcase how their prior research experience and planned research activity align with the Centre's research interests. The evaluation will be based on feasibility, collaboration plan, and potential output/deliverables.
- Evaluation of the visit timeline/schedule: Applicants should list the proposed activities in the activity plan, including the proposed talk topic, research or proposal development activities with APCLC scholars, and interaction opportunities with other EdUHK staff. The evaluation will be based on feasibility, research enhancement, improvement of the research and educational experience of the visitor, and enhancement of collaboration through opportunities for interaction with staff and scholars.
- Track record of academic and research performance: Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to research excellence through a strong academic record, previous research experience, participation in research projects, and/or a record of publications. The evaluation will be based on the potential to enhance APCLC's international profile and strengthen institutional partnerships.
- Applicant's academic CV, including academic results and publication records in English
- An invitation letter from one of the APCLC management team members or EdUHK-based fellows.
Visiting scholars are advised to seek off-campus accommodation.
Other RequirementsApplicants are required to submit a post-visit report, which should be submitted to the APCLC (email: apclc@eduhk.hk) within 30 days of the completion of their visit.
This report also serves as a reflective and evaluative document for the assessment of the programme.
