APCLC Research Fellows, Dr Liou Yi-Hwa and Dr Maxwell Ho,
win the Emerald Young Researcher Award 2021

APCLC Research Fellows, Dr Liou Yi-Hwa and Dr Maxwell Ho, have been awarded the Emerald Young Researcher Award 2021. The award recognises their contribution to research and practice, as well as their impact on Taiwan and Hong Kong’s schools.

The Emerald Young Researcher Award was organised by Emerald in East Asia and the New Asian Tigers region. The regional award honoured six young researchers from 15 Asian countries and regions who demonstrated originality and contribution in research and practice, and made impact on the society.

Dr Liou is Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Management at the National Taipei University of Education and a research fellow of the APCLC. Dr Liou’s research primarily focuses on leadership and development, organisational dynamics and learning, and networked learning communities, with a particular methodological emphasis on social network analysis. She is currently conducting several longitudinal projects using a design-based approach to organisational innovation by looking into the effect of network interventions on the development of individual and organisational capacity for improvement. She is committed to using network concepts and analysis to support organisational systems’ strategic planning and development.

Dr Ho is Lecturer of EPL Dept and APCLC Research Fellow of EdUHK. His win can be credited to training programmes he and his mentors, Prof Allan Walker, Dr Darren Bryant and Dr Lu Jiafang, organised for school middle leaders. The programmes gave teachers a way to understand the strengths and weaknesses of their schools. In so doing, it enabled them to formulate feasible and effective improvement initiatives. They also ran a leadership learning project for close to 40 primary and secondary schools between 2020-22. The project aimed to train and nurture school leaders with an entrepreneurial and service mindset.
