Faculty of Humanities Strengthens Academic Exchange and Cooperation in the Greater Bay Area

The Faculty of Humanities (FHM) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) conducted an academic visit in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) from April 22 to 25 aiming at promoting the collaboration among member institutions of the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Alliance for Chinese Language Education” ( Alliance), as well as enhancing the reputation and influence of EdUHK in the GBA. 


Led by Dr Liang Yuan, Associate Professor from the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) of EdUHK and Director of the Alliance, the visiting team was joined by Dean of FHM Professor John Nguyet Erni, Director of the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education Professor Zhu Qingzhi, Alliance Secretary and the Associate Head and Senior Lecturer of CHL Mr Chau Lap, Alliance Secretary and Assistant Professor of CHL Dr Chan Chu-kwong and Assistant Professor of CHL Dr Ding Hongdi. 

 

The team paid visits to six renowned educational institutions in the GBA, including the School of Humanities at Shenzhen University, the School of International Culture/Chinese Language Education for Southeast Asia at South China Normal University, the College of Chinese Language and Culture at Jinan University, the School of Chinese Language and Culture at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, the University International College of Macau University of Science and Technology, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau. 

 

During these visits, the team had constructive discussions with these institutions, focusing on collaborative educational initiatives for students, the joint establishment of internship programs, cooperation in academic research, and the co-organisation of academic conferences and workshops. 


The team also paid a visit to the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao University Alliance", headquartered at Sun Yat-sen University. During the academic visit, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies was accepted as a new member of the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Alliance for Chinese Language Education". 
In addition, the team reached agreement on various collaborative initiatives with the universities they visited. For instance, there will be a symposium on digital humanities in late 2024, organised jointly by FHM of EdUHK and the College of Chinese Language and Culture at Jinan University. 


Furthermore, the College of Chinese Language and Culture at Jinan University will organise the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Alliance for Chinese Language Education" student paper competition with EdUHK, scheduled for the first half of 2025. 

 

The "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Higher Education Alliance for Chinese Language Education" was jointly initiated by EdUHK, Jinan University, and the University of Macau. Its primary objective is to foster communication and collaboration in the field of Chinese language education while promoting resource sharing and cooperation in line with national development strategies. The academic visit was sponsored by CRAC Project #04A41 of EdUHK.
